Louise Drew shortlisted for prestigious legal award

Up against stiff competition, Louise Drew, one of the firm’s partners and head of the social housing team, has been nominated for a ‘Woman Lawyer of the Year’ award at the 2017 Law Society Excellence Awards.

In her role within the social housing team, Louise is committed to finding innovative solutions to her clients’ problems and has been instrumental in helping to shape government policy to better reflect the needs of the UK’s ageing population.

The ‘Woman Lawyer of the Year’ category aims to celebrate the achievements of practising female solicitors and recognises the efforts made by these individuals to achieve professional excellence in their chosen field.

An additional key requirement for this award is the need for all entrants to lead as an example for all female lawyers and encourage others to pursue a career in the law. Louise leads a predominantly female team within the firm and over the course of her career has acted as a mentor and coach to many people from a variety of levels.

Louise’s influence within the social housing sector, extends from the firm and she has championed her area of practice on a national scale. She is a member of the all-party parliamentary group ‘Housing our Ageing Population: Panel for Positive Ideas’ (HAPPI), through which she put forward two of the top three recommendations. These concerned the need to encourage retired people to move earlier through the introduction of the Help to Buy scheme for older people and the removal of stamp duty for people ‘right sizing’.

Commenting on her nomination, Louise Drew said: “The shortlist for this award is made up of a collection of truly admirable women, all extremely deserving. Championing women within the legal sector has been a long-term focus for me and I have been lucky to have been able to help with the career progression of many talented female solicitors.

“However, my name wouldn’t be on the shortlist without the continued support of my wider team at the firm. Our success is shared and it takes more than one individual to achieve true excellence.”

The awards ceremony is being held on Thursday 19 October, at the Hilton Park Lane, London.

throughout the process helped to create, and preserve,
value for the shareholders."
