Shakespeare Martineau wins ‘gold’ at The Lawyer Awards 2018

Shakespeare Martineau has won the prestigious Best Workplace Initiative award at The Lawyer Awards 2018 beating off competition from other national law firms.

In 2015 the firm became the first ever legal partner for Commonwealth Games England, advising the organisation in the lead up to the 2018 Games.

The partnership established four common goals: winning spirit, exceptional team performance, surprising the market and pride and confidence.

The challenge was to bring this partnership to life for staff and clients, while still providing exceptional legal advice.

Together with Alex Danson, Olympic gold medal winner and Performance Director for Team England and Greg White, Programme Director, our initiative was launched – Walk to the Gold Coast.

Through a combination of monthly stepping challenges over an 18 month period which got progressively harder, motivational weekly emails from Alex and Greg, client events and positive PR – the firm and its clients became more active, lost weight, saw more sunlight, built positive stronger working relationships both internally and externally and had a lot of fun doing it.

The benefits of the initiative continue to be seen around the firm and both ambassadors have been thrilled with the results and believe the difference the business has made over the longer term will ensure the sustainable fitness of the workforce.

"We’re delighted to be at the beginning of a partnership between two teams who share the same winning spirit and focus on supporting talent to achieve their potential. Everyone here has a great sense of pride and excitement to be working with Team England – a team that, after all, reflects just how much can be achieved by a diverse and varied group of individuals all focused on one goal. We can’t wait to get started."
